The whole truth…
OK, let’s be real. I am probably not going to be telling you anything that you haven’t heard before. I know this because even with all the things I have found online, it’s not that they were saying anything new. It’s more that now I am finally ready to go past just knowing to actually DOING. That’s the thing. We can know everything in the world but if we aren’t APPLYING the knowledge, it’s pretty much worthless. So here are the things I already know…
1. SET A GOAL AND LIST THE STEPS TO GET TO THE GOAL.
2. MAKE A SCHEDULE OF WHEN TO DO THE THINGS TO REACH THE GOAL AND KEEP THE SCHEDULE.
3. REVIEW YOUR PROGRESS PERIODICALLY TO BE SURE YOU ARE ON TRACK.
4. WHILE YOU ARE REVIEWING YOUR PROGRESS, BE SURE TO CELEBRATE EVERY WIN.
Here’s some more detail to make it clear:
SET A GOAL AND LIST THE STEPS TO GET TO THE GOAL.
If you have more than one goal then prioritize them and do them preferably one at a time. Also, be aware of when your goal is too broad and narrow it down to a more manageable size.
Take me for example, my goal is to have passive income. THAT IS TOO BROAD OF A GOAL. Now that I know I want to have a passive income, I have to decide HOW. I have some things set up that have potential so I’m thinking that putting meat on those skeletons would be the best thing to do.
I have several options, though. I can do print on demand art gifts. I can sell print on demand copies of my poetry books. PLUS, I also have the goal of making money blogging since I do it all the time anyway, AND there is the AdSense on the trip YouTube channel and new side blog. Since I have so many options, I may have to put one or more to the side and come back to them.
I have to admit that at this early stage of the game I would rather just DO ALL THE THINGS and find a way to schedule out all my tasks.
- Put things on the online stores (the Facebook stores for art & poetry).
- Edit and upload videos to keep the YouTube content going for that AdSense revenue source.
- Write content for the new blog for that AdSense revenue source.
- Write content for the current trip blog to keep up that following (will be moving the domain to the other WP platform in 2017 and hopefully the readers will follow. Still trying to figure out how that will work).
- LEARN HOW TO DO WORDPRESS.ORG <— A lot hinges on this one. I really need to get over my mental block on this.
SIDE NOTE…
I have also looked into freelance writing, but I have to be honest with myself and admit that I am not really ready for this yet. This may be the thing I need to put off to the side and come back to after I get past my WP.org hurdle and my getting blog traffic hurdle. Same with affiliate marketing. I want to do this but I feel like I can’t unless I get the traffic and self-hosting aspects in line. Even the survey funnel to get better sales leads really depends on all of this.
It’s a LOT of work to do. I still have to learn how to code to move the domain! I know most of the blog posts I have seen say WP.org is super easy, but every time I have tried it, I just can’t figure it out and throw up my hands and go back to the free platform. I am SUPER tempted to just stay on the free platform because it auto-posts to all of my other platforms… but I digress. Back to what we were talking about…
MAKE A SCHEDULE OF WHEN TO DO THE THINGS TO REACH THE GOAL AND KEEP THE SCHEDULE.
Here’s the knowing and doing thing again. It doesn’t help to make a schedule to get to the goal and then not DO THE THINGS. Like Nike says: JUST DO IT.
This is a challenge for me, but one I have to overcome. SO, I sat down and laid out the set parts of my schedule to see where the places are that I can fit in working on this project and all its moving parts.
I really want to DO ALL THE THINGS, though. I know that if I do, I will be risking burn out. I KNOW THIS… and yet, I still want to DO ALL THE THINGS. I’m hard-headed like that. My schedule has me doing each of the above bullet points with plenty of breaks to keep myself from the burnout. Here it is by day:
- Saturday = online stores (art & poetry)
- Sunday = YouTube content
- Monday = content for the new blog
- Tuesday = current site content
- Wednesday = work on setting up WordPress.org
- Thursday = either errands or YT & WP.org
- Friday = full day of online work so ALL OF THE ABOVE
Also, having a set time frame makes it easier to track progress. In my case, that means to specify. For example:
- I will have my online stores finished by the end of this month
- I WILL LEARN WORDPRESS.ORG BY THE END OF THE SUMMER!!!!
REVIEW YOUR PROGRESS PERIODICALLY TO BE SURE YOU ARE ON TRACK.
Here we are with a goal AND we are doing the things. Now we have to check ourselves to be sure that the things we are doing are actually the RIGHT things. Sometimes we pick a set of tasks and then realize that they lead us on a path to the left of the goal. This is OK. We can fix it.
Since I only JUST NOW made the above goals and schedule, I don’t have anything to put here yet. I guess that is what this blog is for really. I plan on doing a weekly touch base to document what I have done and how it worked for me. Stay tuned!
WHILE YOU ARE REVIEWING YOUR PROGRESS, BE SURE TO CELEBRATE EVERY WIN.
High five yourself when you do the things of the day! Conversely, be honest with yourself when you know you messed up but DON’T beat yourself up. Just say “Well, I messed up. I’ll do better now.” Then MOVE ON.
I really have to remember this one as I go along over the next twelve months. I hope you will come with me and poke me if I get out of line and if you want I will do the same for you! ^_^
SO THAT’S IT.
The most important factor is to DO IT.
This is the high level. Now comes the part where I SET THE GOAL AND ACTUALLY DO THE THINGS. Wish me luck!
Thanks for reading!

Have you got it all figured out on how to make and reach goals? What worked for you? Are you recently starting the process like me? How is that going? Let me know in the comments! ^_^
Hi! My name is Niccolea Miouo Nance. I am a poet, artist, amateur fire-spinner, and soon to be world traveler via sailboat. I love learning new things and challenging myself (hence this project). Above all else, I love to enjoy life and be spontaneous.
I adore this post, I’ve been dragging. I have no excuses not to tackle my goals, I just have to do it.
Also, I would like a passive income blogging and I noticed you mentioned WordPress.org? Is that new?
Thanks,
T

Thanks for stopping by Taureenia!
WordPress.org has always existed concurrently with WorpPress.com but requires entering the codes for the themes and plug-ins instead of just click/dragging everything into place like this version. I’ve looked at it several times over the past 5 or 6 years and looks like I have to finally get to it!

Does that give you more freedom?

From what I have read so far, yes it does. If you want to use your blog for eCommerce (online stores) or to post affiliate links (special links businesses give that you get a commission from sales on), technically the terms of service for the dot-com version don’t allow for that and the account could be closed if someone tries to get around it.
The dot-org blog program download is still free, it just is a bit more complex because of the coding of the themes, etc (although I have heard from friends that you can find code that you can copy and paste into the html file). I will DEFINITELY post all the tutorials I find when I get to it. That has to wait until I get an actual laptop (I use a tablet currently) so that I have the system requirements to download the WordPress blog program. The way things are going currently, that will be at least a month from now, though.
If you download the WordPress blog program before I do, please let me know how it goes for you! 🙂

Hey, Taureenia! I noticed you have a Gravatar profile so I figured I’d let you know one of the things that I found in one of the many Facebook groups I am in. Since you are just starting out, you can use your Gravatar profile as a way to publicize your blog(s). I started out promoting my poetry and will soon transition to promoting this blog and the blog for the sailing trip around the world. I hope that is helpful! 🙂

What Facebook groups are you in, and how do you promote your blog here? Honestly I’m just blogging and using tags (is that promoting?).

Honestly, I am right where you are! This blog is basically my notes as I go along!
I haven’t finished the “blog traffic” email course yet but I will be posting that once I do. I just finished my post on what I learned about branding (https://myzerotoinfinity.wordpress.com/2016/06/15/my-free-education-part-1-branding/). The blog traffic one (how to get people to your blog) will be next. 🙂
The best I can suggest for FB groups based on what I’ve read so far is to do a search on FB for your niche (mine are poetry/art/sailing/travel), and then join the groups that look active. Just be sure to follow the guidelines of the group because a lot of them don’t allow promotional posting. You don’t really want to be in a group that does because they usually devolve into just spam posts by people who never interact with anyone.

Glad to hear it! That is pretty much the point of this blog for me. I know I can’t be the only one out here trying to figure it all out! I want to hopefully make it easier for other people by writing about what I’m doing. 🙂

We were just talking about promoting our blogs and I saw this in my twitter feed from @ElnaCain: https://twinsmommy.com/webinar-Pinterest-perfection/
Pretty much every blogger seems to promote using Pinterest, but I am clueless so maybe this can help both of us! ^_^
