Affiliate Marketing – What I Have Learned So Far

I have seen a lot of bloggers recommending affiliate marketing as a source of their income. I have signed up for Amazon and ClickBank which do not charge anything to sign up. (I think the vendors are the ones that have to pay, but I haven’t looked into it yet. As long as it’s not ME that has to pay is all I care about!)

I was under the impression that you HAVE to have a hosted site and NOT a free blog like this one. I have since found out that per a WP support page:

Affiliate links are allowed on WordPress.com as long as the primary purpose of your blog is to create original content.

THIS IS AWESOME NEWS FOR THOSE OF US WHO ARE TRYING TO START FROM ZERO!

All this time I was stressed because I was intimidated about buying into a hosting service (which can cost anywhere from $40 – $400 per year depending on what services you choose). I went ahead and got set up with BlueHost but honestly, I may end up not using it after all if I don’t HAVE to. This is about doing as much as possible with as little as possible. You have no idea how excited this information has me right now!

I had looked into Affilorama and Wealthy Affiliate which both have a LOT of information available, but I felt bogged down by it all instead of helped and guided so I am going to cancel my paid memberships and go back to free access only. It’s more limited, but probably all I actually need.

NOW… to figure out how to choose the link(s) to use and how to post them on my other free blogs. Stay tuned!

SIDE NOTE: If you have the means and are planning on being serious about blogging for dollars, you will definitely need to get at the very least your own domain even if it is here on free WordPress. It only costs $26/yr so it is worth it to have a more professional sounding place to send your traffic.

Have you looked into affiliate marketing? Did you participate? Why or why not? I would love to hear from you in the comments! ^_^
